Salem Competes in WV State Swimming Games

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia- The Salem Tigers swimming team headed north this past weekend to compete in the WV State Swim Games at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia. The Tigers would compete in all 32 events across the weekend. For the Tigers women's swimming they would place sixth with 69 total points. The Tigers men's swimming were able to get third place with 305.50 points. 

On Friday, the Tigers started out competing in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The women would finish 12th and 13th ,while the men would finish 8th and 13th. The next event was the women's and men's 1000 Yard Freestyle. The Tigers women's secured 11th, 15th,17th, and 18th. The Tigers men had Alvaro Arruga Moreno and James Fenner who both place inside the top 10. Danko Kesic also placed 15th in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. The Tigers women finished 23rd, 25th, 30th, and 32nd in the Women 200 Yard Freestyle. The men had four swimmers place in the top 15 of the Men 200 Yard Freestyle with Ellias Maurer leading the way at the 8th spot. The Tigers women had two top 15 finishes in the Women 100 Yard Backstroke with Cheyanne Rohde placing 11th and Kiara Barnes placing 12th.  The Tigers men were led by Veer Kassan in the Men 100 Yard Backstroke placing 10th and then 13th in the Men 100 Yard Breaststroke. On the Men 200 Yard Butterfly, the Tigers had one top 10 finish with Alvaro Arruga Moreno placing 9th. In the Women 50 Yard Freestyle Mackenzie Hamilton and Cheyanne Rohde both finished in the top 20. On the men's side, the Tigers placed two top 10 finishers with Ellias Maurer and Marko Zivojinovic both placed in the top 10. On the 400 Yard Relay the women finished 12th, and the men finished 8th, 9th, and 11th.

On Saturday, the first event was the 400 Yard Medley Relay where the women finished 12th, and the men finished 6th. Mackenzie Hamilton finished top 20 for the women in the Women 100 Yard Freestyle. Elias Maurer finish 11th and Marko Zivojinovic finished 14th. The Women's 200 Yard Backstroke Kiara Barnes placed 15th.  Veer Kassan placed 11th on the Men 200 Yard Backstroke. Emma Donnelly placed 20th in the Women 200 Yard Breaststroke. Goncalo Silva was able to place 10th in the Men 200 Yard Backstroke. In the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle Marko Zivojinovic was able to place 9th. Verr Kassan got 8th on the Men 200 Yard IM. The Tigers women were able to secure 11th place of the Women 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, while the Men were able to secure 8th and 9th place.
 
After a successful weekend, the Tigers will look to build on this weekend as they head up to Wheeling October 16th to compete in the Wheeling Tri-Meet.
