BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After a resurgent performance to round out conference play, the Salem Tigers headed home to the comfort of a familiar pool for the final 2 contests of the season. The first of those contests was against the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson College. The Presidents came down to Bridgeport for an unusual Sunday morning contest against Salem, and the Tigers made excellent use of the home pool advantage when they cruised to a 19-14 win.
In the first period, Salem faces some troubles early on with the Presidents jumping out to an early 6-3 advantage. However, the Tigers stormed back with 4 more goals to round out the period, and they never looked back from there. They added a dominant 6-1 2nd period to put the game at 13-7 going into the halftime break.
After the break, Salem needed to lock down defensively and protect their lead. They did just that as they went goal for goal with the Presidents through the 3rd period. The 4th quarter saw the Presidents make a desperate attempt at a rally, but the Tigers shut the door with a strong defensive effort. Ultimately, Salem cruised to the 19-14 home win, and maintained their home pool advantage.
Statistically, it was a banner day for Iris Oudshoorn who finished with a team high of 7 points on 5 goals and 2 assists. Taeghen Hack also had strong showing with a staggering 5 assists and 1 goal. In goal, Emily Low and Lorelai Weaver combined for 3 saves as a unit.
The Tigers wrap up the regular season and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 20th when they play host to Saint Francis at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia at Noon.
