BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After cruising to the first true home win of the year against Washington and Jefferson, the Salem women's water polo team was pumped up and ready to go for their final regular season game of the season at home. This time, the foe was the Red Flash of NCAA Division I foe Saint Francis. Salem also took some time pregame to honor the graduating class of 2024, who finished out their final home game for the Tigers in Saturday's contest. Those graduating Tigers were Jojo DeSalvo, Morgan Riordan, Taeghen Hack, Ivani Kamidoi, Abigail Hopkins, and Alexis Kilgroe.
After the pregame celebration, the Tigers got off to a bit of a slow start as they fell behind 3-0 early on. Salem answered right back with goals from Emma Donnelly and Courtney Repinz.
The pressure built as the game progressed into the 2nd period, and Saint Francis continued to push ahead of the Tigers. Faith Stewart added a goal in the 2nd, but the Red Flash went into the break with a 7-3 lead.
After the intermission, Salem needed a big comeback rally in order to claw their way back on top. In the third, Salem traded goals with Saint Francis, so the 4 goal deficit held into the 4th quarter. Despite a opening goal in the 4th from Morgan Riordan, Saint Francis was able to put the contest just out of reach with 6 goals in the period, and Salem ultimately fell 15-7 in their home regular season finale.
Despite the loss, it was a very even statistical game for the Tigers. Emma Donnelly led the way with 2 goals, but 3 Tigers all finished with a goal and an assist; namely Taeghen Hack, Courtney Repinz, and Mackenzie Hamilton. In goal, the combination of Lorelai Weaver and Emily Low yielded the Tigers 5 saves on the afternoon.
While this contest concludes the regular season slate for the Tigers, Salem still has the WWPA Championship to compete for. That tournament will take place between April 26th and April 28th, and will be hosted by Biola University.
