Salem Snags Wins over VMI and Toronto

SALEM, West Virginia - As the spring season progresses, the Salem women's water polo team has been hard at work taking on a wide variety of competition. Recently, the Tigers were able to snag a pair of wins over VMI and Toronto as part of a 4 game stretch that featured games in Morgantown at Mylan Park and at Villanova's Weekend Invite. Each contest played out as follows:

Salem 19, VMI 7

In the first game of this stretch, the Tigers took on the Keydets of the Virginia Military Institute at home in Morgantown. The Tigers played well throughout, and controlled the contest from start to finish. Courtney Repinz led the way for Salem offensively with 3 goals and 3 assists. Lucy Bramwell and Emma Donnelly finished just behind her with Bramwell adding 4 goals and 1 assist and Donnelly contributing 3 goals and 2 assists in the contest. In goal, Emily Low and Morgan Fenner combined to tally up 11 saves in the game.

Saint Francis 16, Salem 12

In the second game in Morgantown, the Tigers took on the Red Flash of Saint Francis. Salem held a 5-4 lead early on, but Saint Francis was able to rally in the second half to push ahead of the Tigers 16-12. Offensively, Salem was led by Emma Donnelly with 2 goals and 2 assists, Keri Brooks who added 1 goal and 3 assists, and Courtney Repinz who also had 1 goal and three assists. In goal, Morgan Fenner and Emily Low combined for 8 saves in the contest.

Villanova 18, Salem 11

To open the competition at Villanova, Salem took on the host Wildcats. The Tigers had a slow start in the first, but rallied to keep the pressure on the Wildcats down the stretch. However, Villanova was able to pull away late for the 18-11 win. Statistically, Emily Rosa played well for the Tigers by notching 3 goals and an assist in the contest. In goal, Emily Low and Morgan Fenner combined for 9 saves in the contest.

Salem 11, Toronto 9

In the final contest at Villanova, Salem took on the Toronto Varsity Blue. It was a tight contest throughout with the Canadian team, but Salem took early control with a 4 goal opening quarter. From there, the Salem defensive attack held strong and protected the lead to secure the 11-9 win over Toronto. Offensively, Salem was led by 3 goals and 1 assist each from Milica Zelic and Emma Donnelly. In goal, Emily Low racked up an impressive 15 saves in the contest.

With these two wins, Salem will be primed to build on their winning ways as they enter WWPA play this weekend against McKendree and Gannon on March 15th and 16th in Lebanon, Illinois.
