ERIE, Pa. — The Salem University women's water polo team delivered an impressive performance at the WWPA Erie Classic, earning four victories while showcasing a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play at the Hallman Aquatics Center.
The Tigers opened the event with a hard-fought 15-13 victory over McKendree in a tightly contested matchup. Lucy Bramwell and Courtney Repinz led the offensive effort, combining for nine goals. Salem trailed 5-4 after the first quarter but surged ahead in the second period with five goals, including three from Repinz, to take a 9-7 lead at halftime. McKendree made a late push in the final minutes, but Salem held firm behind eight saves from goalkeeper Kristen Hemmila to secure the win.
Salem continued its strong play with a 17-10 victory over Gannon. Milica Zelic paced the Tigers with five goals, while Kara Wicht added four and Bramwell chipped in two. Salem built momentum early, scoring five goals in the opening period and extending its lead to 11-4 at halftime. Despite a strong effort from Gannon's Maria Martinez, who scored four goals, Salem maintained control throughout the contest.
The Tigers followed with their most dominant performance of the weekend, defeating Penn State Behrend 18-4. Wicht and Repinz each scored four goals to lead the offense, while Emma Donnelly added three. Matipa Karimazondo and Avery Sturdevant each contributed two goals, with Iris Oudshoorn, Maddy Nelson, and Zelic also finding the back of the net. Morgan Fenner recorded seven saves in goal, while Lorelai Weaver added another as Salem controlled the game from start to finish.
Salem capped the weekend with another commanding win, defeating Mercyhurst 15-4. Bramwell led the Tigers with four goals, while Karimazondo, Wicht, and Repinz also contributed multiple scores. Salem established control early with four goals in the opening period and continued to build its lead with consistent scoring across the remaining quarters.
Across the tournament, Salem displayed impressive offensive depth with multiple players contributing to the scoring effort, while Hemmila, Fenner, and Weaver anchored a defense that consistently limited opposing opportunities.
With four victories at the WWPA Erie Classic, the Tigers continued to build momentum as they progress through the season.
