SALEM, W.Va. (July 14) – The Salem International University Athletic Hall of Fame is in the process of being added to the website. This week's Salem International Hall of Fame rewind features Jack Deloplaine.

Born April 21, 1954, Jack Deloplaine served the university as a superb student-athlete.

While a student at Salem, he received numerous honors, including the 1975 West Virginia Amateur Athlete of the Year, NAIA All-American and was the Tigers offensive MVP., Deloplaine was also named an AP College Division All-American and was a four-time All-WVIAC selection.

Deloplaine graduated in 1976 and was selected in the sixth round of the National Football League Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a member of the Super Bowl XIII champion team. He had brief stints with the Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears and the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts.

He participated in Steeler charity basketball events and made guest appearances for the Special Olympics and Kenny Rogers' "America" television special.

Deloplaine, who is also a member of the Pottstown, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, is the namesake Salem International University's "Jack Deloplaine Leadership Award", which is presented annually to an athlete who embodies athletic spirit, achievement and leadership.

The athletic department also hosts the annual Jack Deloplaine golf outing each summer in recognition of his accomplishments, with the 2015 Jack Deloplaine Golf Scramble being hosted this week, Friday July 17 at the Bel Meadow Golf Course. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Bel Meadow clubhouse and is $50 per person ($200 per foursome). Prizes for lowest team, longest drive, closest to the pin and other events will be awarded. All are welcome to attend.
