INSTITUTE, W.Va. (April 10) – The men's tennis team claimed a 6-3 win over West Virginia State Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
Salem International University improves to 2-20 overall, while West Virginia State falls to 1-8 this season.
The Tigers rallied after claiming just one of the three doubles matchups. Salem International only dropped one singles match to claim the win.
Freshmen
Landon Schultz-Zwahr (Needville, Texas/Needville),
Alex Werries (Jacksonville, Ill./Jacksonville) and
Nicholas Milush (Douglasville, Ga./Alexander) claimed No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, in straight sets.
The Tigers finished off West Virginia State with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Freshman
Christian Manalang (Killeen, Texas/Ellison) earned a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win at No. 2, while freshman
Curtis Forster (Kerrville, Texas/Tivy) took No. 3 singles 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 to clinch the team win.
Salem International wraps up the regular-season with a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match at Davis & Elkins on Friday, April 16 at noon.
