Salem Splits Four Game Stretch

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALEM, West Virginia- As the Hilton Head Spring Fest came to an end, the Salem Tigers men's tennis team started a new stretch of games. The Tigers played four games in a 10 day stretch with one game being at home. Salem defeated West Chester and Bluefield State. However, Charleston and Kutztown defeated the Tigers.

Salem 6, West Chester 1
In the first contest, Salem traveled to West Chester. Pablo Guillen and Daniel Paipa got the Tigers off to a great start winning the first doubles contest 6-1. Elias Hort and Simon Braeuning followed that up with another doubles victory by a 6-2 score. To close the doubles out, Skander Mezouar and Enrico Pucci grabbed the third victory to secure the doubles sweep. The Tigers kept that success rolling into the singles taking 5 out of 6 wins.

Kutztown 4, Salem 3
In match 2, the Tigers traveled to Kutztown for their next contest. Kutztown got off to a good start taking the first doubles match. However, Braeuning and Hort knotted things back up getting the victory. Pucci and Mezouar secured the third doubles victory to give Salem the 2-1 edge. In the singles contests, Mezouar got started with Tigers winning both sets to start it out. Paipa followed that up by winning his match as well. Unfortunately, Kutztown won the next 4 contests and that would be just enough to take the 4-3 win.

Charleston 7, Salem 0
In the third match, Salem headed down i-79 for a contest for the Charleston Golden Eagles. It would be Charleston who got off to the great start by sweeping the doubles matches. The Tigers needed to drastically turn things around in the singles matches, but it would be the Golden Eagles who would sweep the day to take the 7-0 victory.

Salem 6, Bluefield State 1
In the final match, Salem played host to Bluefield State. Bluefield got off to a 1-0 lead in the doubles matches. However, Salem would answer back by winning both next two double contests. Paipa went onto win his singles match by winning both sets 6-0. Brauenig followed that up by winning the next set for Salem by a score of 6-1. Guillen, Hort, and Ducoing secured their win as well. Salem was able to take 5 out of 6 singles matches to cruise to the 6-1 victory.

Following the split, Salem will now focus on their next contest. Which will occur on April 14th when the Tigers travel to Davis & Elkins and is the beginning of a action packed week.
