SALEM, West Virginia- As all spring sports seasons are nearing the end, the Salem men's tennis team concluded their season. The Tigers had a busy last week of the season competing against four other teams. However, Salem was unable to get a victory.
Davis & Elkins 4, Salem 0
In the first match, Salem traveled over to Davis & Elkins. For the Tigers,
Pablo Guillen and
Daniel Paipa got off to a nice start winning the opening doubles match 6-4. However, the Senators would strike back by taking the next pair of doubles. In the singles contests, the Tigers weren't as successful. Davis & Elkins was able to take the match 4-0.
Fairmont State 6, Salem 1
For the next match, the Tigers headed to Fairmont State for the second match of the week. Fairmont kicked things off by completing a sweep of the doubles matches over Salem.
Skander Mezouar turned it around for Salem by winning his singles match by winning both sets 6-3. However, the Tigers were unable to build off that to create any momentum. Fairmont would be victorious in the rest of the singles matches and take the match win 6-1.
Frostburg State 5, Salem 2
In the third match of the week, Salem traveled to Maryland to take on the Frostburg State Bobcats. The Bobcats got off to a solid start securing the first pair of doubles wins. However,
Enrico Pucci and Roberto Ducoing were able to win their set 6-2.
Skander Mezouar opened the singles with another victory of his own. The Bobcats would go on a run winning the next four. Pucci was able to continue a good day of his own to secure the last singles victory, but that wasn't enough as Frostburg won 5-2.
West Virginia State 4, Salem 0
For the final match of the season, the Salem Tigers played host to the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets. Pucci and Mezouar earned the lone victory in the doubles contest 7-5. Unfortunately, the Jackets would control the rest of the way to go on and sweep all the singles contests.
As the season ends, the Tigers will try to build on the positives to start the preparation for next season. With the Tigers roster being filled with the majority being underclassmen that will give an opportunity for growth and the ability to have a bright future.
