FAIRMONT, W.Va. (April 5) – The Tigers dropped a pair of non-conference matches to Shepherd and Fairmont State on Sunday and Tuesday afternoons.
The Salem International University men's tennis team (1-19) lost each match 7-2, while competing on the road in each match.
Freshman
Christian Manalang (Killeen, Texas/Ellison) was the big winner of the week. He earned three victories, including a win at No. 2 singles in both matches. He dispatched Shepherd's Shane Dempsey 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and defeated Matheus Rodrigues of Fairmont State in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Manalang also teamed up with freshman
Landon Schultz-Zwahr (Needville, Texas/Needville) to win the No. 1 doubles position over Fairmont State in a tiebreaker, 9-8.
The freshman duo of
Brett Robbins (Sweeny, Texas/Sweeny) and
Curtis Forster (Kerrville, Texas/Tivy) picked up Salem International's other win with a forfeit victory at No. 3 doubles against Shepherd.
The Tigers return to Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play when they host Cedarville on Friday, April 8 in the final home match of the season.
