ERIE, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2017)—The Salem International University (SIU) Tigers punctuated its weekend in the Mercyhurst invite with a 13-6 victory over the Mercyhurst University Lakers on Sunday to end its weekend 2-2.

Djordje Stavrevski scored four goals with an assist to lead the Tigers past the reigning College Water Polo Association West Division champions and improve to 2-3 on the season. Mercyhurst dropped to 1-1.
"This was a statement game for our program and to the rest of the conference," Tigers Head Coach
Robert Bullion said. "It will be a fun season."
The Tigers outshot the Lakers 30-24 for a .433 shooting percentage, including a 4-for-11 showing on powerplays. Freshman
Petar Leontijevic scored three goals on nine shots for SIU and junior
David Romero saved nine shots and produced eight steals.
Jackson Rehmet led the Lakers with two points on a goal and an assist each and Andrew Too-A-Foo had eight saves and five steals.
In other exhibition games, the Tigers defeated the University of Toronto 11-10 and lost to Lindenwood (13-17) and Cerritos (11-12). SIU will travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to participate in the Bucknell Invitational from Sept. 15-17 with games against George Washington, Harvard University, La Salle University and Bucknell.
