BRONX, N.Y. – The Salem University men's water polo team dropped two close matches against two Division I programs, falling to Iona 10-9 and Fordham 14-8.
Following the losses, the Tigers drop to 7-12 on the season.
In the first match against Iona, the Tigers posted one of their best defensive efforts of the season.
Senior
Mateo Kozomara helped Salem to stay competitive as he notched 15 saves in the match.
Offensively, the Tigers were led by sophomore
Michael Rojas who garnered three goals, while junior
Milos Popovic netted two goals.
Freshman
Alvaro Leon Parra, freshman
Mike Diaz, junior
Robert Juhas and sophomore
Uros Jevtic each produced one goal.
In the nightcap, Salem's offense could not get going as they were only able to generate eight goals.
The Tigers were led by Rojas and Juhas as they each garnered three goals, while Popovic produced two scores.
Kozomara notched another double-digit save game as he recorded 10 in the match.
The Tigers are back in the water in conference play as they head to New London, Conn. Saturday with a match against Gannon at 1:30 p.m. and Connecticut College at 6:30 p.m.
