SALEM, W.Va. – The Salem University men's and women's swimming teams competed against Alderson Broaddus and WVU Tech in their first home meet of the season, Friday night.
The women swept with two wins downing WVU Tech 112-101 and Alderson Broaddus 134-74, while the men split with a dominating win over ABU 161-10 and fell to WVU Tech 143-91.
The women stand at 4-2 on the year, while the men are at 2-2.
For the women, senior
Marta Gruszczynska swam her way to two wins with a first-place finish in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly at 1:05.33 and 2:31.39, respectively.
Freshman
Philippa Piper took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.67.
Freshman
Lauren Platz garnered a first and second place finish with a win in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:04.50 and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:22.20.
Freshman
Katherine Turner finished in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:18.52.
On the men's side, freshman
Brady Samuels swept three events as he notched wins in the 100 (53.95) and 200-yard butterfly (2:03.30) and the 100-yard freestyle (49.45).
Freshman
Gregory Smith swam to a first and second-place finish notching a win in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:02.83 and a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.98.
Sophomore
Gabriel Craig placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:40.55, while freshman
Austin Kephart collected a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:08.50 and a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at 59.65.
The Tigers are back in action as they host Fairmont State for a dual meet on Friday, November 9
th.
