Salem Swimming Faces Tough Competition at California (PA)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Salem University swimming teams continued their 2025–26 season with a pair of competitive meets over the weekend, competing at the Winter Frenzy on Friday before returning to the pool Saturday for the Vulcan Invite at California University of Pennsylvania.

At the Vulcan Invite, the Salem men finished second overall with 184 points, trailing only Frostburg State, while the women placed fourth with 40 points against a strong multi-team field.

On the men's side, Salem showcased depth and consistency throughout the meet. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kelvin Ceasar, Connor McAlister, Alvaro Arruga Moreno, and Elias Maurer delivered a standout performance, capturing first place with a time of 3:19.38. Individually, Riquelio Joseph continued his strong weekend by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 53.55 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.87. Maurer added another victory by touching first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.25), while Caesar claimed gold in the 50-yard freestyle (22.41).

The Salem women were led by several solid relay and individual efforts. The 200-yard medley relay team of Cheyanne Rohde, Mackenzie Hamilton, Courtney Repinz, and Emma Donnelly placed fourth overall. In individual events, Cheyanne Rohde and Mackenzie Hamilton both recorded top-eight finishes in the 50-yard freestyle, while Courtney Repinz added points in the 100-yard backstroke. Salem also closed the meet with a strong showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing sixth overall.

The weekend began Friday at the Winter Frenzy, where Salem again competed well against regional opponents. On the men's side, Joseph earned another win, touching first in the 400-yard individual medley. Salem relay teams posted multiple podium finishes, including a runner-up performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

For the women, Salem turned in consistent swims across distance and sprint events. Relay squads scored valuable points early in the meet, and several swimmers recorded season-best times in freestyle and breaststroke events.

Salem will look to build on the momentum from the weekend as the Tigers continue their winter schedule and prepare for upcoming conference competition.
