SALEM, W.Va. — Salem University split its dual meet with Fairmont State on Thursday afternoon at Mahaney Natatorium, as the women fell 70–9 while the men secured an 82–69 victory.
On the women's side, Fairmont State controlled the meet by sweeping multiple events and relays to claim the team win. Salem's highlight came in the 100-yard backstroke, where Cheyanne Rohde touched first with a time of 1:06.17, earning the Tigers' lone event victory of the day.
The men's meet saw Salem deliver a strong, balanced performance across the lineup to earn the team win. The Tigers opened the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay, as Riquelio Joseph, Veer Kassan, Elias Maurer, and Kelvin Caesar combined for a winning time of 3:40.15
Salem continued to build momentum with multiple individual wins. Nandor Voros captured first place in the 200 free (1:52.76), while Kelvin Caesar claimed the 100 free in 49.38. In distance events, Elias Maurer earned a win in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.83, followed closely by teammate J.D. Fenner in second place
.Salem will look to build on the men's momentum while continuing to develop on the women's side as the Tigers prepare for their next competition. Both teams will be in the pool next time out at the GMAC/MEC Championships in Canton, Ohio on February 10th through the 13th.
