RALEIGH, N.C. (April 9, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers men's tennis team picked up a big road win, defeating the seventh ranked team in the Atlantic region, Shaw University, 6-3.
Freshman
Gregor Lainer paired with
Ivan Arevalo to take the doubles match in the No. 2 spot, then carried the momentum over into singles, defeating Ngonidzashe Makambwa to clinch the match for Salem.
"The guys have been playing very well against the toughest teams in the country and it paid off today with their first win over a ranked team in our region," Head Coach
Todd Tucker said. "Doubles were great, singles were great, and we're all very excited to get this win.
"Gregor is playing at a very high level and is enjoying success in his win and losses. I've pushed the twins (Carlos and Andres) very hard this season and today they both got huge wins. It was nice to see the hard work is paying off."
With the victory, the Tigers improve to 8-14 on the season. Shaw drops to 14-13. Salem will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina for a match against Johnson C. Smith University on April 14 at 2 p.m.
