Lauren Platz, Annefleur ten Bloemendal, Erin Zappia, Margherita Garibbo, Chloe Smart and Zach Bell all posted multiple event wins as the Salem University men's and women's swimming teams played host to Urbana University in a dual meet Saturday at Salem Pool. The meet was Salem's 2019-20 home opener and the Tigers' second meet in as many days to begin the season.
 
ten Bloemendal recorded wins for Salem in the women's 500 yard freestyle and the 1000 yard freestyle. Zappia won in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard fly. Platz took first place in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard backstroke.
 
Garibbo captured the 100 yard freestyle and Smart won the 200 yard freestyle. Garibbo and Smart combined with Platz and Zappia to post a sub-four minute time and win the 400 yard freestyle relay.
 
On the men's side, Bell recorded wins in the 50 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle. Also posting wins for the Tigers were Fernando Gomez Perez in the 100 yard breaststroke and Brady Samuels in the 100 yard freestyle.
 
Salem is off until Friday when the Tigers play host to Alderson Broaddus University in a dual meet. Event time is 6 p.m. at Salem Pool.
