ANNAPOLIS, Maryland - To open the 2022 season, the Salem University Men's Water Polo program headed over to Annapolis to take on Mount San Antonio College and Mount Saint Mary's University in the Navy Open. The event is hosted by the United States Naval Academy, and Salem made the most of their opportunities with back to back wins. The games played out as follows:

Salem 19, Mount San Antonio 15

In game 1, Salem got off to an early start with 5 goals in the first quarter, and really took control of the game entering the halftime break. Once squarely in control of the contest, the Tigers maintained that control and rode out to a decisive 19-15 victory. The star of the contest was Marko Zivojinovic who contributed an impressive 6 goals. Chad Rowley added another 4 goals. In goal, Goncalo Silva logged 11 saves in the contest.

Salem 18, Mount Saint Mary's 16

In the second contest of the day, Salem faced a tougher test in the Mountaineers. The game was tightly contested as both teams traded blows down the stretch. The factor that gave the Tigers control of the game was again the play of Marko Zivojinovic who contributed another impressive 5 goals alongside his teammate Nikola Krstonosic who contributed 5 goals of his own. It was a team effort for the Tigers in goal as Julen Alonso and Goncalo Silva added 9 saves as a group. 

On top of these impressive wins, the weekend is just getting started for head coach Robert Bullion's squad. They are scheduled to take on George Washington at 1 pm, and then they will take on Johns Hopkins at 4 pm as the final two legs to Salem's portion of the Navy Open on Sunday, September 4th.
