SALEM, West Virginia - With the other spring sports for Salem University in full swing, the Salem men's tennis program got their season underway last week. The team played in 4 competitions against programs across the state of Pennsylvania, and notched 2 team wins. Those contests played out as follows:
Mercyhurst 6, Salem 1
In the first matchup of the season, Salem met with the Lakers of Mercyhurst University. Salem had their work cut out for them matching up against an experienced Laker team. However, they were able to score some team points when Pablo Guillen was able to win his singles match in a comeback victory after dropping the first set.
Edinboro 7, Salem 0
In the second matchup, Salem had strong play from Max Mueller and Daniel Paipa who came up just short of scoring team points for the Tigers. Both took control of their matchups early on, but fell behind shortly thereafter. .
Salem 5, Millersville 2
For the third matchup of the season, Salem really found their stride as a team. In the doubles portion of the competition, they got wins from the Daniel Paipa and Pablo Guillen partnership and the Pablo Noya and Tomas Acuna pairing. On the singles side of the contest, it was those same 4 Tigers who earned individual wins over the Marauders to secure the 5-2 victory over Millersville.
Salem 5, Bloomsburg 2
In the 4th contest, Salem got their first point from the doubles side of competition with Allesandro Fedeli and Max Mueller earning a win. In the singles side, they got 4 individual wins from Mueller, Guillen, Fedeli, and Acuna to round out the 5-2 win over the Huskies.
