The Tigers made the most of this new postseason opportunity, and pulled away with two dominant wins on their way to the overall championship. Both matchups played out as follows:
Salem 9, Mississippi University of Women 0
For the first matchup, Salem overpowered the Owls in the doubles portion of the competition with 2 strong performances. Then, they swept the singles side as well with shutout wins from Alesandro Fedeli, Pablo Guillen, and Daniel Paipa. This win sent the Tigers to the championship matchup the next day against Johnson & Wales (NC).
Salem 9, Johnson & Wales (North Carolina) 0
It was a very similar showing in the tournament final against the Wildcats. Salem led off with a sweep of the doubles competition. After that, they crushed the singles competition as Daniel Paipa, Pablo Guillen, Pablo Noya, Tomas Acuna, and Roberto Duconing all notched shutout wins in their individual matchups. That performance locked in the tournament title for the Tigers, and Salem came away with some additional hardware as well on top of the team title.
Max Mueller and Pablo Guillen each made the All-Tournament team, and Daniel Paipa earned the tournament MVP for his efforts down in Charlotte.
This championship wraps up a 13-10-1 season for head coach Dennis McNaboe's squad, and they will be looking to build on that success next fall when they start the 2023-2024 campaign.
