EMMITSBURG, Maryland - After their long hiatus, the Salem men's water polo team was anxious to get back in the water to continue their already strong 2024 fall campaign. They had tat opportunity on Friday night with a rare solo matchup with Mount Saint Mary's. Salem held off the Mount and rode a strong showing from Ivan Petkovski to a 21-16 win.
In the first quarter, the game remained even at 4-4. Salem took control with 6 goals in the second to go into the break with a 10-8 advantage. After the half, the Tigers really opened things up with 8 goals to really put The Mount in a tough spot. In the fourth, Salem held off the advances of their foes, and cruised to a 21-16 victory up in Emmitsburg.
On the stats sheet, Ivan Petkovski led the Tigers with 7 goals and 5 assists. Danko Kesic added 6 goals, and Marko Zivojinovic chipped in another 5 goals. Not to be outdone by his brother, Ivan Zivojinovic added 4 goals and an assist of his own. In goal, Duarte Costa locked things down defensively with 7 saves on 23 shots.
Salem gets back on the pool deck up in Massachusetts in their next round of contests. They will compete in the Harvard Invitational on October 19th and 20th where they will face off with Long Island, Chapman, Mount Saint Mary's, and Bucknell.
