INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - After a short hiatus, the Salem men's wrestling team returned to competition this weekend in one of the biggest wrestling competitions of the season. The Tigers made their way to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the University of Indianapolis' Midwest Classic. The open tournament featured 43 NCAA Division II wrestling programs from all over the country, so the Tigers had their work cut out for them against some of the best wrestlers in the nation.
Competition was fierce all weekend in the Circle City. and the Tigers certainly needed to make their mark in their debut appearance at this annual event. The best performance of the weekend for Salem came from Seth Thomas. Thomas came up just two points short of wins in his bouts against wrestlers from Pitt-Johnstown and Northern State. Iran Love had a similar experience as he dropped two tight matches with wrestlers from Wisconsin-Parkside and Emmanuel. Devin Fowler, David Makupson, Seth Holt, Dylan Knight, and Clayton Downs also got some valuable experience on the mats in Indianapolis.
While the results were tough on the Tigers for this event, the Tigers will be looking to make some big improvements in their next round of competition after the holiday break. That event will be just up the road at the Fairmont State Invitational on January 4th.
