SALEM, West Virginia - After a prolonged hiatus from hosting true home matches, it was a busy Monday afternoon for the Salem Tigers Tennis programs. Prior to a planned home contest against the University of Charleston Golden Eagles, the Salem Tennis program officially opened the Mutschelknaus Community Courts.
In appreciation of their contributions to both Salem University and the greater city of Salem community, the courts were named after the Mutschelknaus family. This family's incredible generosity made the revitalization of the Main Street courts possible, and therefore gave the Tigers the first home matches in Salem since 2019.
As for the contest itself, the Tigers faced off with a tough regional opponent in the Golden Eagles. Salem kept things close in the doubles event, but ultimately fell behind. In the singles portion of the day's festivities, the Tigers kept things close, but fell yet again to the Golden Eagles.Â
Salem University and the Tiger's men's and women's tennis programs would like to thank the Mutschelknaus family and all those who contributed to this historic day for the Tigers tennis teams.
