GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania - With a winter storm finally breaking in north central West Virginia, the Salem men's wrestling team headed up to the Keystone State on Tuesday evening for a matchup with the Seton Hill Griffins. It was a tough result for the Tigers, however, with Salem falling by a final team score of 40-9.
It was a rough start for the Tigers, but they finally found their footing in the final two bouts of the contest. First, Iran Love put the Tigers on the board by narrowly sealing a tough win 3-2 win in the 197 weight class bout. In the heavyweight bout, Kourdell Todd was able to pin the Griffin's Jeremiah Erickson in 2 minutes and 46 seconds to get the last of the scoring in for the Tigers. The late surge in those final two bouts was simply not enough to make a difference for Salem on the final scoreline as the Tigers fell 40-9.
While the event did not go the Tiger way, there are still some bright spots for Salem to take into their next round of competition. That competition will be at the University of Mount Union's Purple Raider Open in Alliance, Ohio on January 19th.
