GLENVILLE, W.Va. — The Salem University men's wrestling team opened its 2025–26 campaign on Saturday at the Pioneer Open, hosted by Glenville State and sponsored by Go-Mart. The Tigers showcased competitive performances across multiple weight classes, highlighted by several strong matches and bonus-point victories.
At 184 pounds, Landon Ristoff led the way for Salem, earning two wins — including a first-period pin over UNC Pembroke's Samuel Bartholomew in just 2:33 and a 4–2 decision over Ashland's Robert McCrork — to total 4.0 team points on the day.
At 165, Seth Holt recorded an impressive 15–0 tech fall victory over Logan Williamson (Emmanuel) to start his tournament run. Holt advanced to the quarterfinals before bowing out by decision.
Seth Thomas added to Salem's success at 157 pounds, opening his day with a 16–4 major decision against Millersville's Riley Oakes before falling in a close 4–3 match to Frostburg State's Calvin Kraisser.
At 149, Dylan Knight earned two victories, including an 11–8 decision over Luke Osborne (Emory & Henry) and a 17–4 major decision in the consolation rounds.
Riley Curran contributed 1.5 team points at 133 pounds, highlighted by a 10–2 major decision over Fairmont State's Noah Hess in the consolation bracket.
Other notable performances included Tashawn Cofield at 197, who earned an 11–8 decision over Frostburg State's Shawn Traynham, and Ethan Moore, who battled through a competitive 8–1 decision loss in his collegiate debut at 125 pounds.
The Tigers continue early-season action next weekend when they travel for another open tournament as the lineup looks to build momentum through the November slate.Salem gets back on the mat on November 6th when they travel to Fairmont State for a dual match with the Falcons.
