GLENVILLE, West Virginia - With the winter season closing in the coming weeks, the Salem men's wrestling team made a second trip down to Glenville State today to compete in a pair of dual matches against the Pioneers and fellow Mountain East foe Davis & Elkins. Despite falling to the Pioneers, Salem locked up a win over the Senators to earn one last dual win ahead of the quickly approaching NCAA Regionals. Each of the night's duals played out as follows:
Glenville State 42, Salem 6
In the first matchup, Salem had a tough time dealing with the reigning Mountain East Conference team champion Pioneers. Sean Johnson picked up Salem's only bout win when he pinned Glenville State's Malikai Badillo just short of 2 minutes into the match.Â
Salem 44, Davis & Elkins 10
The Tigers had a much stronger performance against the Senators. David Makupson opened things up with a pin, and Riley Curran grinded out a 6-4 victory to put Salem up 21-0. After a handful of Senator forfeits, Iran Love sealed the victory by earning a technical fall win over Davis & Elkins' Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro.Â
Energized by the 5th dual win over the season, Salem should have some extra energy as they prepare to compete in their first-ever NCAA Regional. That competition will take place on March 1st, and the event is being hosted by Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio.
