BUCKHANNON, W. Va. (Oct. 11, 2017) – The Salem University Tigers volleyball team lost on the road in three sets to the West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC) Bobcats on Tuesday night (23-25, 26-25-18-25)
Rachel Hess led the Tigers with 15 kills and
Cassidy Pluta had 18 assists, but WVWC had a strong second set and hit .304 as a team for the match.
In the first set, the Tigers and Bobcats went back and forth, with a four-point, 11-7 Salem lead being the greatest point differential of the set. Hess led the team with five kills and a block, but the Tigers committed three attack errors in a 5-1 run to allow Wesleyan back in the set.
Salem finished the set with 13 kills but committed seven attack errors for a .125 hitting percentage.
In the second set, West Virginia Wesleyan was deadly efficient, putting together 17 kills on 30 attacks with only one error for a scorching .533 hitting percentage, compared to Salem's 10 kills on 32 attacks and six errors.
In the third and final set, the Tigers had as many errors (nine) as kills, struggling after taking an early 3-0 lead.
Hannah King led West Virginia Welseyan with 15 kills and Emily Doyle had 12.
With the loss, the Tigers drop to 5-19 on the season, including 3-5 on the road. Salem will hit the road from Oct. 13-14 for matches against Ursuline College and Malone University in Canton, Ohio.
