Alaina Weltz entered the game in the fifth set, scoring an ace on her first serve to help spur a 6-0 run and defeat Glenville State College 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 15-10).
Rachel Hess led the Tigers with 19 kills, showing moments of great rapport with setters
Feliciana Reed and
Cassidy Pluta, who combined for 37 assists with 23 and 14 each, respectively.
For the match, the Tigers were more efficient than Glenville State, finishing with a .158 hitting percentage to Glenville State's .079.
It took some time for Salem to get going, giving Glenville State a 13-5 lead in the first set before waking up with a 7-0 run. Though the Tigers fell short in the first set, they carried the momentum into the second and third sets, hitting .267 and .382.
Salem came unraveled in the fourth set, surrendering four service aces and committing six errors to just eight kills for a .054 hitting percentage.
In a back-and-forth match, the Tigers took advantaged of eight Glenville State errors in the fifth set to hold on for the win, improving to 6-21 for the season.
Kathryne Mathis contributed eight kills and
Alessandra Marquez had six.
The Tigers also held a 9-5 advantage in blocks, getting five from
Kristn Holt and four each from
Kathryne Mathis and
Nina Isaac. Libero
Jen Foreman led the team with 20 digs.
Salem's next match will be on Oct. 27 against Bluefield State College in Bluefield, West Virginia at 6 p.m.
