Box Score 2 KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2017) – The Salem University Tigers volleyball team took to the road to close out its season, splitting two matches to finish 9-24.
On a neutral court, the Tigers made quick work of Cheyney University, defeating them in three sets (25-7, 25-15, 25-13).
Salem set the tone early, closing out the first set by scoring 10 of the final 11 points while the defense held Cheyney to one kill and six errors. Salem finished the first set with 13 kills on 25 attacks with four errors for a .360 hitting percentage. In the second set, Salem had 14 kills on 32 attacks with six errors for a .250 hitting percentage. The Tigers closed out the match with an efficient 13 kills on 26 attacks and three errors for a .385 hitting percentage.
Rachel Hess led Salem with 11 kills and eight digs.
Sophie Freihofer and
Feliciana Reed each had three aces. Elaina Weltz had 16 assists and
Feliciana Reed had 12 assists.
In the second set, the Tigers struggled in the third and fourth sets to fall to Kutztown University (17-25, 25-23, 11-25, 15-25).
Hess led the Tigers again with nine kills while
Ashly Holt had seven and
Kathryne Mathis had six. Weltz had 19 assists and
Jen Foreman had four aces. Freihofer and Foreman led the team with 18 digs.
Salem struggled at the net, hitting into 10 blocks and committing 26 attack errors, finishing with a .096 hitting percentage. Kutztown finished with a .309 hitting percentage.
