HILTON HEAD, SC - The Salem International University men's tennis team opened the 2017 Spring Tennis Fest with a 6-3 loss to Tiffin University on Friday afternoon (March 3) in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Tigers trailed 2-1 following doubles competition after getting an 8-4 victory from the tandem of sophomore
Eugene Bour and freshman
Kevin Musasia.
The Tigers would drop an 8-3 decision in the opening doubles match with sophomore
Landon Schultz-Zwahr and
Christian Manalang falling to the tandem of Luis Ludena and Toby Cutting. The Dragons won a tight battle in the other doubles matchup (8-5) that pitted the SIU duo of freshman
Nicolas Martinez and sophomore
Antonio Shaw against Logan Meier and Andrew Isaac.
In singles competition, the Tigers recorded victories in the number five and six positions with Martinez defeating Stewart in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Shaw would beat Meier 6-2, 6-3 before Schultz-Zwahr went to a decisive third-set against Elio Lezama. Lezama would rally to win the second set 6-1 and the third set 10-4 after dropping the first set 6-2.
