Kyana Cardenas notched her first collegiate double-double with 11 digs and 10 assists, but it wasn't enough as Salem University wrapped up play in the Daemen College Volleyball Classic with a 25-19, 25-12, 25-18 loss to Wilmington University (Del.) Saturday at Amherst, N.Y.
Liane Moser added eight kills with no errors for a .421 hitting percentage.

Salem (0-14) spotted Wilmington the first five points of the opening set before the Tigers stormed back behind service aces by Cardenas,
Yesenia Munoz and
Anna Veryser. After Cardenas's ace tied the set, Veryser gave Salem its first lead with a kill and combined with
Jalavia Johnson on a block to put the Tigers on top 12-10.

The set saw two more ties before Moser's kill ignited a three-point run to give Salem its largest lead of the set at 17-14. Wilmington came back with four unanswered points before Johnson's kill stopped the run and forced the fourth tie of the set. But the Wildcats broke the tie and took the lead for good.

Wilmington used three consecutive aces to jump out to an 8-0 lead in the second set and the Wildcats went on to take a two-set advantage.

In the third set, Munoz sandwiched a kill and an ace around back-to-back solo blocks by Johnson during a four-point run to break a tie and put Salem on top 11-7. After Wilmington pulled within a point, a kill by Veryser and a block by Johnson and Moser gave the Tigers a 14-12 lead. But Wilmington scored the next six points to go ahead to stay.

Johnson finished with a match-high six blocks, including three solo blocks.

Salem returns to action Tuesday as the Tigers travel to Elkins, W. Va., to take on Davis and Elkins College. Match time is 7 p.m.
