Salem, WV – Salem University swim hosted Alderson Broaddus and Frostburg State on Saturday. Seniors Greg Smith, Austin Kephart, Brady Samuels, Lauren Platz and Katherine Turner were all honored prior to the meet for their Senior Season.
Both teams outscored Alderson Broaddus, with the women scoring 168 vs 11 and the men scoring 165 vs. 18 but fell short against Frostburg State 142.50-100.50 (Women) and 132-122 (Men). The Tigers came away with 13 first place finishes on the day, 6 for the women's team and 7 for the men.
On the women's side, Jaden Welsh led the Tigers with three first place finishes: 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.51), 50-yard freestyle (26.47) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.00). Sofia Castillo tied for first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.04 and Ivani Kamidoi came away with first in the 200-yard Individual medley at 2:23.37. The relay team of Lauren Platz, Welsh, Castillo and Shayla Smith took first in the 200-yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.17.
Samuels and Fernando Gomez led the men with three first place finishes apiece. Samuels in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.38), 100-yard freestyle (49.77), the 100-yard butterfly (54.93) and Gomez in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.46), 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.98) and 200-yard individual medley (2:05.49). Huscar Urbina added one in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.15.
