SALEM, West Virginia - The Salem Athletic Department is still preparing for their 2024 debut, but there is some exciting news regarding the end of the 2023 fall semester. Across all of Salem's student-athletes, the Tigers were able to post a cumulative GPA of 3.22 for the Fall Semester of 2023. This is a improvement of 0.02 over the spring of 2023, and truly shows all the hard work our student-athletes put in off the field of competition.
In regards to this strong performance academically from the Tigers, Athletic Director Alex Joseph had this to say, " I am really proud of the hard work and effort that our student-athletes have shown in the classroom this semester. I also want to thank the efforts of our coaching staffs, our faculty and the institution's Academic Leaders in working with these student athletes. Our student-athletes continue to impress with their ability to perform at the high level both in their sports and in the classroom."
Individually, 106 Salem student-athletes earned 3.5 or higher grade point averages in the Fall 2023 semester, and 64 of those were 4.0 or higher.
On a team by team basis, Women's tennis led the way for Salem with a overall team GPA of 3.77. Just behind them was Women's Water Polo, who ended up with a 3.67 overall team GPA. The rest of high performing teams are listed below:
