Tiger Indoor Track Teams Wrap Up Competition At Marietta Open

Salem University indoor track and field finished fifth out of seven men's teams and fourth out of seven women's teams at the Marietta Open, hosted by Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. The event was the Tigers' second of the 2019-20 season and first since returning from Christmas Break.
 
Indira Rauf and Asia Hines paced the women's team by combining for 44 of the Tigers' 73 points. Rauf recorded a pair of first-place finishes, winning the 55 meters with a time of 7.42 seconds and taking the long jump with a distance of 5.20 meters. She also placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.42 seconds.
 
Hines won the 200 meters with a time of 26.15 seconds and finished just behind Rauf in second place in the 55 meters at 7.48 seconds. Nya Jones, who placed sixth in the 200 meters (29.36 seconds), captured first place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.23.
 
Keara Wilson-Crockett earned points for Salem with a fourth-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles (9.46 seconds) and a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters (30.90). Three Tigers finished among the top eight out of 20 throwers and earned points in the shot put. Jasmine Taleni placed fourth (10.03 meters), Makhia Hinton was sixth (9.51 meters) and Jennifer Chester finished eighth (9.29 meters).
 
On the men's side, Mario Ospina finished second (9:26.13) and Dominic Mazzariello finished fourth (9:55.24) in the 3000 meters for a combined 14 of Salem's 41 points. Jovany Lara took home a second-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.18 meters, while Delmar Jeter finished eighth at 10.18 meters. Jeter also earned a ninth-place finish in the long jump at 5.77 meters.
 
Greg Carr, Xavier Engleton and Parker Maxwell also contributed points to the Tigers. Carr finished fourth in the long jump (6.27 meters), Engleton placed sixth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.21 seconds) and Maxwell finished seventh in the 400 meters (59.93 seconds).
 
Glenville State captured first place in both the men's and women's overall team standings.
 
Salem makes its third and final trip to Marietta next Saturday as the Tigers compete at the Pioneer Open. The Tigers kicked off the season in December at the First Glimpse Open, also hosted by Marietta College.
