CALIFORNIA, Pennsylvania- After a long break, the Salem Tigers men's and women's swimming team was back in action. This weekend the team headed up north to the keystone state of Pennsylvania to compete in the Vulcan Invitational. The schools competing in the Vulcan invitational were Salem, Frostburg State, Bethany College, and Penn West University, California.
On the women's side,
Cheyanne Rohde was able to get points on the board for the Tigers after having a successful 50 Yard Freestyle placing 5
th out of 15 competitors. The 100 Yard Backstroke seen two Tigers place in the top 5 with
Kiara Barnes finishing 3
rd with a finals time of 1:03.99.
Cheyanne Rohde was right behind in 4
th with a time of 1:04:77.
Courtney Repinz placed had a top 5 finish on the 200 Yard Freestyle. Repinz finished with a time of 2:11.16 earning her the 5
th spot.
Kiara Barnes added another top 5 finish in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:23.62. Barnes added another 4
thplace finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:38.12. Rohde added an impressive 2
nd place finish in the next 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26:25.
Mackenzie Hamilton placed 4
th in the next 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 57.86.
On the men's side, the Tigers had a 2
nd place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay earning 16 points.
Alvaro Arruga Moreno had an impressive 2
nd place finish in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a final time 17:27.54. Salem had a strong representation in the 50 Yard Freestyle with
Elias Maurer finishing 1
st and
Marko Zivojinovic finishing 2
nd. Arruga Moreno placed 1
st in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 1:48.33. The Tigers had another 1
st place finish with
Elias Maurer in the 200 Yard IM. Arruga Moreno wasn't done with the 1
st place finishes as he had another one in the 500 Yard Freestyle and another one in the 200 Yard Butterfly.
Elias Maurer added another 1
st place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle. The Tigers men's swimming was able to grab second place on both days.
After a successful weekend, the Tigers men's and women's swimming teams will look to keep this momentum going into the next event. That will take place next weekend at Frostburg State on January 17
th. The following day January 18
th they will compete again at Davis and Elkins College.
