Salem University Athletic Hall of Fame
Dave Christie transferred from Marshall University in 1958 and attended Salem on a basketball scholarship until he graduated in 1961. Christie, a Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, totaled 1,395 points in his three year career at Salem. In 1960-61, he was ranked 25th in total scoring in NAIA, ranked 4th in total scoring in the WVIAC, ranked 6th as the all-time scorer at Salem College and was named WVIAC All-Conference 1st team. Only eight players were selected from 15 different teams.
After graduating from Salem, he graduated from WVU with a Master’s in Education. He went on to coach 23 years at various high schools in Ohio, compiling a 299-161 record, 26-1 in a single season. He was a six-time coach of the year in Ohio where he won six league championships, six sectional championships, one district championship, one regional championship, and one state runner-up.
In 1988, he started Christie Financial Services after retiring from teaching and coaching. Christie later sold his business in 2005 and retired.
As of 2008, he resided in Oak Harbor, Ohio.
