Salem University Athletic Hall of Fame
Born October 18, 1936, William D. Connors was a four-year letterman in both baseball and football at Salem College.

He was an All-WVIAC selection in football at quarterback, and was named the WVIAC Player of the Year in baseball as a catcher his senior year. He left Salem with all passing records at the college and in 1963 was named the Salem College Athletic of the Year.

His 64.7 completion percentage in 1961 stood as a WVIAC record at the time, while he accounted for 2,970 yards passing and 25 touchdowns during his career.

Connors was selected to the All-Time WVIAC Team in 1974 in both baseball and football by the West Virginia Sports Writers.

His high school coaching experience was the envy of his peers. Connors enjoyed a 29-year coaching career at Beth-Center, Ringgold and Belle Vernon High Schools that resulted in three Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) titles and a career record of 174-92-12. His team’s won WPIAL Championships in 1975 and 1982 and he was named the Washington County Coach of the Year and the Dapper Dan Award in both 1975 and 1982, and the WPIAL Coach of the Year in 1982. Connors produced many players who went on to fame at NCAA Division I schools

He was a teacher of both English and physical education and served as a head track coach that produced two undefeated seasons.
