Salem University Athletic Hall of Fame
Sherwood played basketball for the college and was awarded the Yanks’ Trophy in 1964 as the Outstanding Athlete of the Year. In 1962 and 1963, he was named to the West Virginia Intercollegiate Conference All-Tournament Team, and in 1963 was named to the WVIAC’s All-Conference Team.
The president of his senior class in 1964, Sherwood graduated from Salem College with a bachelor’s degree in History and Physical Education
Sherwood was in the educational field for over 30 years. He worked as a coach, a teacher, an athletic director, a guidance counselor, a principal (for both junior high and senior high), and as a school superintendent. He also has dedicated himself to the Clark County United Way for over 20 years and served as its president, where he was also named to the United Hall of Fame.
