Salem University Athletic Hall of Fame
Born August 17, 1904, R. Paul Christie was a three-sport athlete while at Salem College. He graduated in 1928 after having had an illustrious career in football, basketball and tennis. He was the sophomore class president and active in the student government, Varsity S Club and Shamrocks Club. Christie also served as the vice president of the student government in 1927.

His college coach had said on several occasions that Paul Christie was one of the most outstanding athletes to play at Salem College. He was a four-year letterman in football as a defensive back and quarterback. Christie was a member of the basketball teams in 1924-25 and was captain of the 1927 team which won the WVIAC Championship. His athletic abilities led him to a coaching career which spanned eight years at West Virginia high schools.

He was active in civic affairs everywhere he lived throughout West Virginia and he was an officer in the Salem United Methodist Church, where he held nearly every lay office in the church directory.
