Salem University Athletic Hall of Fame
Fred Gandt attended Salem from 1956-1960 and graduated with a BS in Business. Gandt played four years of basketball and three of tennis after being recruited by Bryon Gibson (also played for Clern Clower). He claimed All-Conference Honors three straight years and scored over 1600 points in his career. Gandt finished 15th in the nation with 24.5 points per game in 1960 and at the time of his induction was fourth in scoring all-time at Salem.
After graduating from Salem in 1961, Gandt went on to teach math, business, social studies, and drivers education. He is married to Grace Brown, whom is also a teacher, and has been happily married for over 50 years. The couple has two daughters and three grandchildren. As of 2008, Gandt resided in Cypress Landing, North Carolina.
